7 Hygiene Mistakes You Should Avoid in The Bathroom

Attention, attention: Bacteria alert! If you’re reading this, these seven hygiene mistakes in the bathroom will never happen again.

There are a lot of bacteria in the bathroom. And even if you think: “Everything is clean in my house”, there are some things you should definitely pay attention to.

For example, the Medical Center of New York University has discovered that so-called aerosol is released every time a toilet is flushed. This creates a cloud of toilet water droplets. It floats around in the room and bursts after a short time – and not directly above your toilet, but where it is. And with it the bacteria contained in it also spread. This is not dangerous to your health, but you should avoid some mistakes in the future with this knowledge:

Mistake 1: Leave the toilet lid open

With the knowledge of this cloud of toilet water, you don’t want to imagine where these drops will eventually come down and possibly still settle on your toothbrush. A closed lid is also visually much nicer.

Mistake 2: Take your mobile phone with you to the toilet

Not only on the toilet itself, but also on surfaces such as door handles, taps and toilet flushes show traces of faeces. Especially in public toilets it is not advisable to take your mobile phone with you or even to put it on the floor. Even when flushing, the water splashes with urine and faeces in all directions and could get onto your mobile phone you are holding in your hand. Studies even show that a quarter of all handbags contain traces of faeces.

Mistake 3: Store beauty utensils open

Keyword: toilet water cloud! For this reason alone you should in future store everything in a bathroom cabinet or in toilet bags. But also in general it’s not nice if your make-up utensils get dusty or if pollen and the like settle on your brushes and cotton buds when airing them.

Mistake 4: Do not wash hands

An absolute MUST after going to the toilet! But you should also always wash your hands before applying make-up. Countless germs stick to them, even if you are a well-groomed person. Therefore, brushes or sponges are recommended for applying foundation, for example.

Mistake 5: Do not clean utensils

To prevent the germs from multiplying in the first place, you should change or clean your brushes, sponges and towels once a week. For towels, the 3-day rule even applies strictly speaking. But soap dispensers should also be wiped off and not just wiped around.

Mistake 6: Cultivate bacteria on toothbrush

The toothbrush should be changed every two to three months at the latest according to the AOK Dental Clinic Rhineland/Hamburg. Bacteria cling to it, which can cause not only inflammation of the gums but also colds. By the way, the toothbrush should be stored upside down in the toothbrush cup and above all not in the bathroom cabinet, but in the air.

Mistake 7: Turn the bathroom into a greenhouse

In the bathroom, moisture and heat meet – and this is the perfect environment for bacteria to multiply. Whether towels or other utensils that get damp from the steam of the shower or even a wet towel, they need to be dried. That means: towels belong on the heater and brushes and sponges should never be put in boxes when damp. Only when it is dry do bacteria have no chance.
