Foilyage Hair Technique: How We Color Our Hair in 2021

A new year, a new staining technique. And this could replace the old proven balayage technique. We present it!

Foilyage: The hair color trend in the new year

The freehand dyeing technique Balayage is in great demand in modern hairdressing salons. In this technique, a hairdresser brushes a mixture of lighter blonde and darker brown strands onto the hair freehand. The new dyeing technique Foilyage now complements the Balayage. There, in addition to the freestyle paintings with foil strands, accents are worked into the tips of the hair.

And this is how the Foilyage streak look works:

First the hair is moistened freehand with the desired color. Then the hairdresser places a funnel-shaped aluminum foil around each strand, brushes the ends more intensively with the desired color and folds them in. This creates a gentle and harmonious flow and the hair is highlighted especially beautiful. The result: the hair looks as if kissed by the sun and looks more voluminous.

Can I use the technique alone?

As with the balayage staining technique, we recommend that you let a professional do the work. The gentle effect is difficult to achieve alone at home. But there is one advantage of the dyeing technique: It only needs to be re-dyed every three months and you will hardly see any build-up in foilyage. So you can save yourself frequent visits to the hairdresser. However, the cost of the mixed version of freehand and foil strands is about 80-150 USD.

For which hair tone is Foilyage actually suitable?

The coloring technique is suitable for every hair color and hair type. The hairdresser then individually adjusts the right shade – whether golden blonde or ash blonde. To ensure that the color lasts long on the hair and does not wash out too quickly, the hair should be treated with special colored masks and treatments. This way you will enjoy the new coloring technique Foilyage for a long time.
