Heat Protection Spray | Do I Really Need It?

We have been preaching for years when it comes to styling with hairdryer, straightening iron or curling iron. Because: intense heat damages our hair! You should pay attention to this when using heat protection spray.

Heat protection spray – mandatory for hot stylings!

The new ones are hot. And now they work with temperatures around 200 degrees. Flat irons are designed to flatten the natural wave in seconds in the morning. Just pull the strand through and you’re done – it often takes only 3 seconds. The curling iron works in a similar way. The wisp of hair is untwisted, held briefly and then carefully untwisted again. The hair dryer also blows some hot air around our heads. And since such high temperatures can cause massive damage to our hair structure, we urgently need protection. This is especially true for fine and colored hair – especially if it is styled like this regularly. Otherwise, dull hair, split ends, frizz and hair breakage are a real threat.

How does the heat protection spray work?

The heat spray wraps itself around each individual hair like a coat and ensures that moisture is not removed when straightening, blow-drying or twisting. At the same time, heat protection spray is intended to care for the hair, which is why it contains ingredients such as aloe vera juice or wheat proteins. Some sprays also contain UV filters, because sun protection for hair is an important issue.

Many heat protection sprays contain silicones or mineral oils, even microplastics are often included. Anyone who wants to do without them can also find a few hot candidates on the shelf for certified natural cosmetics.

What you should pay attention to when spraying

  • Off into damp hair! Heat protection spray spreads better in damp hair than in dry hair. Especially if we distribute it after spraying again with a fine-toothed comb. If we spray it on dry hair to style it again, the strand will unfortunately often be a little sticky.
  • Keep distance: It is best to keep a distance of about 30 centimeters between the spray bottle and the hair. This allows the care and protection molecules to be optimally distributed over the entire hair and is automatically dosed correctly.
  • First blow-dry, then smooth or curl. It is most gentle on our hair to blow-dry it before using the curling irons and straightening irons. Very wet hair should not be treated directly with the styling tools. The spray should be applied BEFORE blow-drying!

Heat protection spray as cream

If you don’t like the button press but prefer creamy textures, heat protection can also be found in cream textures. A blow-dryer lotion has the advantage of having an even more nourishing effect on the hair structure – ideal especially for dry and structurally damaged hair.

Help, it’s steaming!

Sometimes, when using the straightening iron, the hair may steam after being sprayed. However, only the moisture from the heat protection spray evaporates. Who is worried, wait until it is completely absorbed and only then dare to use the iron.
