It’s like a spell: Just a moment ago, on Friday evening, we toasted the weekend, and now it’s Sunday afternoon again. And frustration sets in, because Monday is approaching and with it a new start of the week. The Sunday blues can be really annoying.

Why do the Sunday blues arise at all?

Actually, almost every day we are somehow under electricity or have something to do – on Sundays, on the other hand, work is at rest and that gives us the opportunity to take care of ourselves. Which is basically good, but for some people it leads to endless thought loops around private life and job. We often ask ourselves whether we are actually happy with our lives and tend to feel rather lonely. If you are generally dissatisfied with your job, the prospect of Monday will probably ruin your mood completely.

5 tips against the Sunday blues

Fortunately we are not completely at the mercy of the mood killer Sunday blues. With these tips, you’ll learn to enjoy Sunday for what it really is – recreation time!

1. Sometimes not available

Actually, you spend Sundays just staring at your cell phone all the time, hoping that someone wants to meet with you at short notice or at least entertains you with an amusing story. Stop – Sunday is the perfect Digital Detox day! Instead of spending the day checking what everyone else is doing, you should put your phone aside and do something that is good for your body and soul!

2. Use Me-Time

Speaking of good for body and soul: Sunday is best used when you consciously do something good for yourself. Be it spending a day in the sauna area in a wellness hotel somewhere or lying in the park in the sun with a good book. Such a perfect time out pushes all everyday worries far away!

3. Dreaming into the future

Everything that needs to be done is done – now you have time to dream about what could be. You always wanted to take a trip around France by car? Now is the perfect time to start planning! Outline your dream (with a photo pinboard? Via a mind map? Or rather in the form of the classic to-do list? You decide what you like best!) and then think about how and when you could realize it.

4. To move

Who likes to drag themselves to the gym in the evening after work and pedal listlessly on the cross trainer? Sunday, on the other hand, is the perfect day for training, which you also like to let slip during the week. This not only makes you fit, but also ensures that the carousel of daily worries has no chance!

5. Search for traces

It often helps to become aware of why you have the Sunday blues. If it only comes on once in a while, it’s nothing to worry about. But if you want to scream every Sunday at the thought of the new week, you should take the time to actively search for clues: Is the boss annoying? Is everything getting too much in general? If you have found out the cause of the problem, you can do something about it.

Professionally, it often helps if you can delegate a few tasks and seek an open discussion with the boss / colleagues. If the problems are more profound and can hardly be overcome, however, dismissal can also be considered. Also on a private level, it makes sense to look for support and / or simply confide in someone. Two people are more likely to find possible solutions than alone. And even just talking about small and big worries solves many a knot and helps to improve your mood.
