Frizzy Hair Tips: How to Tame and Get Rid of Frizzy Hair

Bye bye, frizzy hair! Protruding hairs and brittle lengths are extremely frustrating. Find out here how to make your hair shiny and smooth again.

1. Use ion tools

Meanwhile, many technology manufacturers have introduced electric hair tools with ion technology to the market. They are said to work wonders for stubborn hair. The reason is the positively charged ion particles contained in the tools, which are activated by electricity. They radiate onto the hair and smooth the cuticle layer. This layer is often roughened anyway with frizzy hair. When used regularly, ion tools can make dry hair shinier and reduce frizz.

The following devices are useful for frizzy hair:

  • Ion brush: These devices could replace your standard hairbrush. They are battery powered. At the touch of a button, the ion brush releases positively charged particles and smoothes out strokes of length very quickly.
  • Ionic hairdryer: Hairdryers with ionic function prevent the hair from becoming dry and brittle when blow drying. The hair is easier to comb after blow-drying and tends to knot less.

2. Brush frizzy hair properly

The hair breaks off and looks dull? Attention, this can also be caused by your hairbrush. How smooth and supple your hair looks also depends on the right brush and the right brushing technique. The following three rules should be observed with brittle hair:

  1. Brush the hair as rarely as possible. Frizzy hair tends to break off quickly. With every brush stroke you risk hair breakage – therefore you should reduce brushing to a minimum.
  2. Do not brush the hair when wet. Since a wet hair fiber is particularly sensitive, you should not brush your hair when it is soaking wet. Wait until the hair has dried a bit to avoid hair damage.
  3. First care, then brush. Brushing through frizzy hair can be a real challenge. Before you reach for the brush, you should apply a light leave-in care. This makes it easier to untangle the hair.

3. Pamper frizzy hair with oils

The right hair care for frizzy hair should be one thing above all: rich! Your hair urgently needs moisture so that it looks velvety soft again and falls silky.

The best moisturizer is still pure vegetable oil. This natural beauty booster nourishes the hair through the fatty acids it contains, which are wrapped around each individual hair fiber like a protective coat. Furthermore, oils such as coconut oil or almond oil naturally contain vitamins and minerals that regenerate the hair.

4. Test keratin treatments

A keratin treatment is typically performed at a hairdresser. The treatment is particularly suitable for frizzy curls that are difficult to tame. Meanwhile, there are also many keratin kits for home use. The effect is similar: During keratin straightening, the hair fiber is smoothed and built up. This makes it easier to comb frizzy curls.

For this, a special keratin solution is applied to the hair, which is later sealed with a straightening iron. The hair falls straighter, feels more robust and is less prone to breakage.

5. Choose rich shampoos

The wrong shampoo is one of the main reasons for dry and frizzy hair. Very aggressive cleansing substances are often hidden here, which roughen the hair. This favors protruding hair and frizz.

So be sure to choose a mild and rich shampoo that moisturizes your hair while washing it. Strongly avoid volume shampoos or shampoos for oily hair. These have a stronger degreasing effect and can lead to strawy lengths.

6. Avoid critical ingredients

To make frizzy hair smooth again, you should take a look at the ingredients of your hair care products. There are three no-go’s that you should definitely avoid if you have stubborn hair. These are:

  • Silicones: These chemical film formers provide better combability in the short term. In the long term, however, they dry out the hair considerably. Artificial silicones seal the hair, which means that genuine care ingredients can no longer penetrate the hair fiber.
  • Sulfates: These cleansing substances are found in many shampoos. They degrease extremely, which puts a lot of strain on the hair fiber. This promotes hair breakage and frizz.
  • Mineral oils: Similar to silicones, mineral oils act as film formers. However, they do not have a real conditioning effect and make the hair permanently limp and dry.

7. Check textiles

We give far too little thought to the textiles that come into contact with our hair. This point is especially important for brittle hair. Avoid especially cotton. This type of fabric is quite rough to the hair and roughens the cuticle layer too much. Stick to the following textile tips to avoid frizz:

  1. Sleep on a silk pillow: silk is extremely finely woven and smoothes the hair fiber. This prevents frizz, split ends and hair breakage.
  2. Wear a sleeping cap: Even if sleeping caps look a bit strange – they can save frizzy and brittle hair. When sleeping, it often happens that the hair is dried out by the great pressure and friction. It is difficult to brush them after getting up and they lose their shine. A sleeping cap prevents frizzy hair and protects the tips from breaking off.
  3. Switch to a microfiber towel: Instead of the typical cotton towel, you should choose a microfiber version. Similar to silk, microfiber is soft and very finely woven. This makes the hair less roughened and less prone to frizz.
