What causes hair loss? How is hair transplant done, how does the process work? We have explained the hair transplantation process in detail in our article by considering all the techniques.

What causes hair and eyebrow loss?

Although genetic factors are known to be the most important cause of hair loss, recent studies have revealed that epigenetic factors are much more important in hair and eyebrow loss. Many epigenetic factors such as environmental factors, geography, air pollution, unbalanced diet, sedentary life, stress, and some micronutrient deficiencies are primarily responsible for hair and eyebrow loss.

The existence of controllable factors as well as some uncontrollable factors is an important glimmer of hope for patients. Nutrition and stress management are the two most important controllable factors here, while genetic predisposition is the most important causes of hair and eyebrow loss among the uncontrollable factors.

How to do hair transplant?

Hair transplant used to be done by a method that can be defined as the separation of a tissue taken from the area between the two ears into hair follicles and transplanting it to the missing areas. But in the last 15 years this method has been almost completely abandoned. Now the name of the technique: FUT. There is no need to make any cuts in this technique. Thanks to a device we call a micromotor, roots can be taken one by one and transplanted to the missing places. While this is the most used method, it is not the only method.

In another similar method, this time the same process is done manually instead of the micromotor device. The process of removing the tissue is done one by one with special devices, which we call manual punch, and the roots are transplanted to the missing places. After the procedure, the channels are opened with the hair follicles (grafts) placed one by one in special pens, while the transplantation process is realized.

Patients can choose one of many techniques, but it is mostly preferred that the physician determines the technique to be applied. While making this choice, the physician decides on the most beneficial technique for the patient. In all these techniques, the most desired by female patients is to cut as little hair as possible. It is possible to perform hair transplantation with the least possible loss, without touching the patient’s hair.

How is eyebrow transplantation done? Which techniques are applied?

In fact, the techniques applied in hair transplant are also valid for eyebrow transplantation. After the roots are collected, it is not important for the operation team where these roots will be planted. If the opening is in the hair, it can be transplanted to the hair, and if it is in the eyebrows, it can be transplanted. In eyebrow transplantation, the roots are collected one by one from the top of the ear and kept in a special liquid between 4 and 8 degrees.

A special scalpel channels are opened on the eyebrows. It is extremely important that these channels are compatible with the exit direction of the eyebrows. If a wrong channel is opened in this regard, the transplantation will naturally be wrong and the eyebrows will grow in the wrong direction. After the canal is opened, the roots are transplanted into these canals one by one and the process is completed. The area where the transplanted roots are taken is a special area above the ear, and it should be noted that these roots are roots containing a single hair. Eyebrow transplantation takes between 2 and 3 hours on average and does not distract the patient from their daily work. It takes an average of 4 months for the eyebrows to grow.

How does the process work before and after hair transplantation?

It is very important to tell the patient what kind of process awaits the patient before hair transplantation. Because the patient will make the business plan accordingly. Pre-operative procedures are limited and they usually do not tire the patient at all. It is extremely important to do some blood tests before the operation.

Other issues are more of a concern after hair transplant. Hair transplantation takes about 6-8 hours. The process starts with the examination and is completed with blood collection, planning, local anesthesia, root removal, root canal opening, transplantation, dressing and farewell. All stages are done by doctors, nurses and assistant health personnel who are competent in the subject. All these stages, in which the patient is awake but does not feel pain for local anesthesia, must be followed by the relevant doctor.

How long is the healing period?

Patients should go home after hair transplant and rest during and after the operation. On the third day, the patients’ first hair wash is done and the patient is taught how to wash the hair. All these are explained to the patient on the day of the operation and given in a written journal. It is also beneficial for the patient to watch videos with answers to questions that may be asked. How to use the drugs to be used after hair transplantation is explained to the patient in detail, and the magazine and video links are given.

To whom can hair and eyebrow transplantation be applied?

Both hair and eyebrow transplantation should be done primarily to those who need it. Since they are surgical procedures, the patient should not take this decision alone without going through a doctor’s examination. All patients who do not have an obstacle to the operation are considered suitable for hair and eyebrow transplantation. Of course, if the physician needs it, he/she may want to get opinions from other specialties where the patient receives regular treatment and make his/her decision accordingly.

What is the application process like?

The operation has three stages. The first stage is the removal of the roots, the second stage is the opening of the channels, and the last stage is the planting of the roots. All three stages are extremely important and must be carefully planned and implemented. The process is actually extremely comfortable for the patient. Since the patient does not feel pain, he often says that the process is more comfortable than he expected. Of course, for this opinion, it is extremely important to create ideal conditions for the patient.

What are the risks?

Hair and eyebrow transplantation has almost no risk as long as the patient is well selected and the conditions called 21 Gold Standards are met. For this reason, we find it beneficial for patients to choose doctors and centers that fulfill the 21 Gold Standards.

Will there be shedding after hair transplantation? If so, how long does hair take to loss?

Hair loss, which starts 15 days after hair transplant, is a normal shedding and is seen in almost all patients. In fact, it would be more accurate to call it hair breakage. For about 3 months, new hair does not grow, but after the 3rd month, the number of hairs that the patient can notice begins to grow. The process is repeated within a year. After this period, the transplanted hair is not expected to shed. However, a suitable medical shampoo should be used to prevent the transplanted hair from falling out, and if the physician deems it necessary, needle applications should be made at regular intervals.
