Make Your Own Rinse Aid: Recipe and Instructions

Many swear by rinse aid for the dishwasher. Here we show you how to make your own rinse aid – inexpensive, quick and easy to make.

A dishwasher is a real (time) gain in the household. But for that we also need to have dishwasher tabs or powder in the house. Often a rinse aid is also recommended, which should ensure lime-free glasses and faster drying of the dishes. If you ever run out of it: no problem! We have found a good recipe to replace the rinse aid (and the dishwasher tabs).

Make your own rinse aid: Easy-peasy instructions

If you take a look at the ingredients of a rinse aid pack, you will probably find that not many substances are listed. And the good thing is that you can get the ingredients for a homemade rinse aid in any drugstore – or even have them at home.

You need this for 250 ml of rinse aid:

  • 150 ml methylated spirits
  • 100 ml lukewarm water
  • 40 g citric acid (powder)
  • Empty glass bottle
  • Possible funnel

This is how you make your own rinse aid

  1. Mix the citric acid with the lukewarm water until it has completely dissolved.
  2. Then add the alcohol (methylated spirits).
  3. Now pour the mixture into an empty bottle, possibly using a funnel to help.

Now the rinse aid is ready for the machine!
