Braided Hairstyles for Short Hair: Super Easy Looks

Braided hairstyles for short hair? Sounds complicated, but it isn’t at all. Great looks can be created with simple tricks – we promise!

Short hair is styled much faster in everyday life than hip-length hair. Nevertheless, the pixie cut, the elongated bob and other short hairstyles have their pitfalls when it comes to styling – especially when braiding. On the one hand, short strands make an even result more difficult and fixation with hair clips or hair ties can also be a problem. With a few tricks, you too can style the beautiful hairstyles of the stars at home.

Braided hairstyles for short hair: This is what you need to pay attention to

If you want to tie your short hair into a braided hairstyle, you should make sure not to wash your hair the day before. Freshly washed hair has less grip and thus makes braiding more difficult. A little dry shampoo or sea salt spray are additional aids with styling. Then the hair should be brushed well, because small nodules interfere with styling. Before the braiding can start, the right parting must be drawn. Whether side parting or middle parting, one thing remains the same: the parting must be drawn exactly. You will see irregularities immediately later.

Boxer braids

Previously found mainly in the boxing ring, boxer braids can now enjoy great popularity. And there’s a reason for that: the tight-fitting, side-braided braids hold our hair together well. No strand hangs uncomfortably in the face. Khloe Kardashian is a big fan of the braided hairstyle because she can style it even with her chin-length hair.

That’s how it works:

  • Draw a strict middle parting, for this purpose is best to use a handle comb.
  • Before you can start braiding, fix one half with a hair tie.
  • You start braiding on one side, from top to bottom in the style of a peasant braid or a French braid, very close to the head. At the bottom, tie the braid tightly with a hair tie.
  • Now repeat the same on the other side.

A hairspray can be used as a finish: Small baby hairs are straightened, the braid is fixed and the hairstyle gets a little shine.

French braid

Of course, the classic Rapunzel-style French braid is not possible with short hair. But it is possible with a variation. If the length of the hair is not enough to braid the hair to the nape, it is convenient to braid the hair only and end in a chignon.

That’s how it works:

  • With a comb, draw a line from ear to ear and divide the hair into a top part with which will braid and one that will fall straight down.
  • Start braiding in the middle of your head with a thin strand. Each time you place the outer strand over the middle one, they will pick up a thin strand of the front hair as well. The braid will become thicker over time and will have a nice texture.
  • When you reach the middle of the head, take the remaining hair of the upper part and twist the braid into a knot.
  • Fix the braid with a hair tie and bobby pins, if necessary.

Dutch braid

Maybe the French Braid is not suitable, but the Dutch Braid is possible with any length of hair. But what is meant by a Dutch Braid? The Dutch Braid resembles the well-known French braid, but it is a braided hairstyle that creates a 3D effect through the braiding, so that the braided braid looks like it has been “put up”. It is also known as the “reverse French braid”.

With long hair you can use the Dutch Braid to braid a great fringe of hair, but the hairstyle is also suitable for short hair. Simply part the hair into a side part and start braiding along the slightly longer bangs.

Tip: The strands are not placed over the middle strand in the Dutch Braid, but under it. This is how the 3D effect is created.

This makes the braided hairstyle for short hair an eye-catcher

The braided hairstyle is not yet eye-catcher enough? No problem, with beautiful glitter clips, hair ribbons or a flower wreath can create great looks. If you love the boho style, you can also resort to chains or colorful hair chalk to add some pep to the hairstyle.
