How Often Should You Wash Your Towels?

Many people wash their towels far too rarely. Bacteria and fungi can multiply particularly well in them – and that after only a short time.

Washing towels? Most people only do it irregularly. After all, you only use them when you yourself are already clean, i.e. freshly washed. However, it is a myth that they hardly ever get dirty.

On the contrary: towels can develop into real germ spinners. The humid environment in the bathroom, which is usually heated by steam, is a paradise for bacteria and fungi. They celebrate a tiny party – on the towel with which you dry your face in the morning. Not a pretty picture, is it?

Why you should change towels regularly

The reason for this is quite natural: When drying off, small particles of skin get into the towel. These become the basis of life for fungi etc., which multiply lively in terry cloth. In addition, everyone has bacteria in and on their body, which are even healthy and important – if they are balanced and do not accumulate uncontrolled. So there is a mix of germs and skin scales in the towel that we do not notice. That’s why you rarely see towels that they are dirty.

By the way, you should never use the same towel for hands and face. Most germs are on the hands – they have no place in the face.

You should wash towels so often

As a rule of thumb: towels should not be used more than three times. Thus, those who shower every day should also change their towel every three days. It is recommended not to share towels with other household members and to hang them up straight as soon as possible after showering so that they can dry thoroughly.

Don’t worry: to kill the germs, by the way, it is sufficient to wash the towels at 60 degrees. Afterwards they should also be dried well.
