Make Your Own Picture Frame: Instructions and Ideas

A picture frame effectively sets the scene for our souvenir photos. We prefer to use a special frame for this purpose, which is designed by ourselves and attracts attention. Here you can find nice inspiration on how to make a picture frame yourself.

Beautiful frames are expensive, but even without a lot of money you can frame your pictures creatively. You can find picture frames in different sizes at flea markets or in second-hand shops. Their appearance is not important at all, because with your creativity you will make them unique!

Making picture frames yourself: Here’s how it works

You need

  • Picture frames in different sizes
  • Hot glue or wood glue
  • Colour
  • Materials for embellishment, such as
  • Stones
  • Pieces of glass
  • Buttons
  • Rope
  • Dried (tree) fruits, such as aniseed, cinnamon sticks, acorns, beechnuts
  • Mussels
  • Branches, driftwood
  • Dried flowers or leaves
  • Lace band, bobble braid
  • Fabric remnants
  • masking tape
  • Deco beads
  • Deco glitter

Instructions

  1. If the frame needs a new coat of paint, then let’s go for the brush and acrylic paint! Tip: The paint holds better on already glazed wooden frames, if you sand the frame with sandpaper beforehand. But spray paint is also very good for designing: Gold spray, for example, makes the picture frame shine!
  2. Afterwards you can still decorate the frame. Shells provide a maritime feeling, a natural expression is given to your frame with branches and leaves, and those who like it playful can use colourful beads and buttons. The frame gets a noble touch with a lace border. The materials can easily be glued on with hot glue, craft glue or wood glue (for wood). Try it out – you can never have enough picture frames!
